Home School: Use this basic drill to keep from sliding through impact

Sliding through the ball as you turn through impact is a problem that plagues many golfers. The result is a loss of power and control that can make it difficult to find any consistency.

To help work on this problem, GOLF Top 100 Teacher Jason Baile gave us a handy lesson you can practice with items you can find around the house. All you need is a broom and a couch cushion. Watch the video above or read below for more.

Begin by setting up the seat cushion standing up on the outside of your lead leg. Then, take the broom and choke up on it about halfway. Wind up into your backswing and as you do so, press into the ground with your lead foot. This allows for the ground to push you up, freeing up your left side to extend. You also want to make sure the broom handle doesn’t hit you when you make your move down into the golf ball.

“Press into the ground and let your lower body extend you up and apply some pressure to the ground as you sweep through into a good balanced finish,” Baile says.

As long as you make sure you don’t knock over the standing cushion, you’ll know that you aren’t sliding through impact.

“If you’re one of those guys that slides, this is a great drill for you,” Baile says.
