There are days when I feel like I can’t miss and then there are rounds when I feel like I can’t make a thing. I’ve tried lots of different cures — new putters, grips, ball markings, you name it. Recently, I’ve locked into something that’s really helped: reading putts by focusing on where I want the ball to enter the hole and then working back to my lie.

I start by walking to the highest point on the green. From there, I look at the entire length of my putt. This helps me better gauge the overall break. Next, I go behind the hole and, based on what I saw while standing on the high point, pinpoint where the ball should fall into the cup. Lastly, I address the ball and make practice strokes focusing on the entry point, constantly adjusting my feet until I’m comfortable. When I’m good, I go.

Trust me: It works.
