When pros speak, master craftsman Bob Vokey and Vokey Tour rep Aaron Dill listen — even when the request is for a wedge with plenty of loft. Outside of Phil Mickelson, the 64-degree lob wedge typically has low usage because a standard 60-degree tends to do the job for most golfers. But pros aren’t most golfers.

In recent months, Dill started to field calls and text from players who were interested in testing a 64-degree “they could use at certain times during the season.”

“There are golf courses and green complexes that require more loft or bunkers that may be deeper than expected,” Dill said. “As we worked through this project, the consensus from players was a wedge that has lower bounce, is faster through the turf and gives more of a skid and slide feeling on the bottom. It’s a really cool option to have available when the conditions call for it.”

If the rain holds off, Augusta National would be a good venue to debut Vokey’s WedgeWorks 64W — a collaboration between Vokey and Dill — due to the tightly mown areas around the green complexes. Even if the wedge doesn’t see action this week, weekend golfers will have an opportunity to scoop up the limited-edition lob wedge through Vokey’s WedgeWorks program.

The 64W is designed to generate speed through the turf with an effective bounce of just 4 degrees and medium sole width with modest camber.

For those considering the idea of using a 64-degree wedge, make sure you possess a number of important short-game traits that are usually attached to better players.

“This wedge is ideal for the player with quick hands who likes to see the ball elevate quickly, or the fearless player who isn’t afraid to attack any pin,” said Vokey. “Players that are so good at shallowing out their technique can simply allow this mid-width sole with loft to do all the work when under the pressure of elevated pin locations. It delivers a feeling that the best players in the world love and dedicated golfers will, too.”

Each WedgeWorks Limited Edition 64W wedge retails for $275 and comes in a durable, Jet Black Premium finish.
