Viktor Hovland found the winner’s circle for the second time in his fledgling pro career at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. The Ping staffer buried a birdie putt on the 72nd hole with a custom PLD prototype putter that went into play last year. The 360-gram face-balanced mallet is 100-percent milled from carbon steel and features a patina finish that’s designed to accelerate the rusting process, giving the head a well-worn look.
Hovland has been known to tinker with his irons, but he’s kept the gear changes to a minimum since changing to Ping’s yet-to-be-released G425 LST driver. The Norwegian didn’t see a reason to shake things up after logging five top-20 finishes in seven starts prior to Sunday’s win.
