TaylorMade OS Daytona Putter Review: ClubTest 2016

May 17, 2016

CATEGORY: Blade Putters
PRICE: $200
WE TESTED: 34″, 35″ length
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The aluminum insert has deep, milled grooves to reduce backspin for a smooth roll.

DISTANCE CONTROL: A hot face causes balls to spring forward and roll aggressively toward the hole; little difference in rollout between center and off-center strikes; players who adapt to it can quickly control speeds from all distances.
FEEL: Light and lively — overall weight seems lighter than many blades despite its larger size; very well balanced — testers are in tune with the head at all times during the stroke; the milled face provides a firm, quick strike; slight misses feel the same as when you catch the sweet spot.
LOOK: Oversize blade with plenty of offset provides a confidence boost at setup; raised red and white sightlines stand out on the brushed metal head for easy alignment; straightforward, traditional lines.

A few testers have a hard time controlling distance with the hotter face; overall weight seems too light for a couple of others; the red and white alignment lines can look a bit tawdry.

BOTTOM LINE: The TaylorMade OS Daytona is simple to aim and easy to hit, making it ideal for guys who have a taste for blades but maybe not the game for them.
