Picture this: You’re shuffling your way to the 18th tee after a stretch of bogeys. You stepped in an unsuspecting puddle two hours earlier, and now your feet (and golf game) are paying the price. What was once an exciting endeavor — getting out on the course the day after a big rainstorm — is now an experience that you’re hoping ends as quickly as possible.
Sound familiar? Foot pain, caused by wet conditions or not, is a common story out on the golf course. It’s a sport that requires a ton of walking. Personally, no matter how many golf shoes I’ve tried, I had yet to find a real solution — until now.
An upstart San Diego company, Tomo Golf has created a golf shoe that’s comfortable for wide feet, waterproof and fashion forward. It looks more like a sneaker that you’d find off the course, a trend that continues to grow with golfers across the U.S. The Tomo Alpha shoe specifically has a woven pattern, making it a breathable choice for your feet. (I also loved the designs on the bottom of the soles.) The shoes are lightweight, feature a wide base and come equipped with pillowy insoles, making them comfortable even for your first time wearing them. No need to break ’em in.

My second round in the Alphas, it was a damp, soggy day on the golf course. Not only did my new shoes protect my feet from those wet conditions, but the dirt on them was surprisingly easy to clean later. Tomo suggests to spot clean the shoes using a wet cloth, but I went as far as to spray some stain remover on them, and it worked like a charm.
The Tomo Alphas come in combinations of black, gray, white, blue and red. The brand also makes creative ball markers, divot tools and towels. I couldn’t resist the Koi Utility towel, which actually holds water in its “mouth” that you can dip irons and wedges into before wiping them off. I had never seen anything like it before, but I instantly fell in love with its usefulness, just like the shoes.
