Scottie Scheffler’s putting has been a hot topic for weeks, and it all came to a head at the Memorial where he combined one of his best ball-striking performances with his worst putting performance to finish in solo third place.
Now in the days leading up to the first round of the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, Scottie looks to have a potential change in sight after being spotted on the practice green with a new putter in hand.
The putter in question is a Titleist Scotty (with a “Y”) Cameron Newport 2 Plus, which offers a similar shape to his current Newport 2 but with a wider flange (back portion) designed to offer better alignment and a higher MOI for forgiveness.

Although details from Scheffler were not available, we had the chance to talk to the team at Titleist behind the putter and found out that Scottie has had the new putter in his possession for a couple of weeks and has been working with it at home. The main goal behind the potential change is to help offer a new look and new feel on the greens, and with that, he was also seen working with different weights on the sole of the putter.
As of right now, it’s looking like the new putter will be in the bag on Thursday when play starts at LACC since there was no other putter in his bag during his practice session, but if he does go back to his previous putter we will be on hand to cover it.
