Phil Mickelson spotted with new clubs at LIV Portland event

Phil Mickelson at LIV: Portland.

Phil Mickelson’s golf bag always makes for interesting conversation, and at the LIV Golf Portland event at Pumpkin Ridge, Phil was spotted tinkering with clubs that have made his short game famous, and infamous – his lob wedge and putter.

With Phil’s move to LIV Golf and his Callaway deal on pause, he had an old favorite, Ping Eye2 wedge back in the bag. Don’t get carried away and think he pulled a 25-year-old wedge from his garage; the wedge in question is a PING Eye2 XG which Phil has used on and off dating back to around 2014. The Eye2 XG model is a reproduction of the original Eye2 and offers the same head design as the original but with 2010 conforming grooves.

The other change to Phil’s bag comes in the form of an extended-length putter and grip which hints that Lefty has gone to the armlock putting style to help cure his putting woes, which were on full display a few weeks ago at the U.S. Open.

Whether these club tweaks help Phil improve his play is yet to be seen, but one way or another it’s going to make for some interesting viewing.
