Nike Golf’s Bold New Looks Include Joggers, High-Tops, and Tights

February 16, 2016

CULVER CITY, Calif. — These aren’t your father’s golf outfits.

That was the takeaway at a Nike Golf event at Smashbox Studios on Monday evening, when the company unveiled several bold new looks for 2016, including high tops, joggers and golf tights.

“Golf has been lacking [when it comes to fashion], but it’s finally catching up,” said Brooks Koepka, who joined other Nike staff players, including Tony Finau, Patrick Rodgers, Scott Pinckney and Jamie Lovemark, in a roundtable discussion about the new line and the future of golf fashion. “Everybody is bringing their own little slice of style, and they care about how they look and how their clothes fit.”

Among Nike’s new offerings are:

FlyKnit Chukka golf shoes (available today for $190)

A shorts-and-Hyperwarm golf tights combo (worn by Scott Pinckney)

MM Fly Blade polo, featuring a distraction-eliminating “blade”-style collar

Tapered-leg joggers (modeled by Brooks Koepka, below center, and Tony Finau, second from right)

Nike Golf Club capsule collection called “Enemies of the Course,” featuring “course enemies” like geese, skunks and alligators on a graphic print (Koepka).

Though the new apparel represents a radical departure from traditional golf designs, the players were enthusiastic about Nike’s vision

“I wear joggers every day, pretty much,” Finau said. “To have the opportunity to wear them on the golf course is pretty amazing.”

Patrick Rodgers said that “these young guys, myself included, we’re not afraid to be different. When you see guys that are having success on the course and who are not afraid to stand out a little bit, it makes an impact.”

In other words, don’t be surprised if you start seeing joggers and high tops at your own course.
