Is this the most beat-up putter on tour?

Considering the endless brand-new putter options PGA Tour players have at their disposal, it’s pretty unusual to see older putters on tour. There are exceptions like Jordan Spieth’s or Tiger Woods’ trusted Scotty Cameron putters, or even Rory’s TaylorMade spider, which are less so “beat up” and more well loved.

But sometimes you have to call it like it is, and the most beat-up putter on tour almost certainly belongs to Taylor Montgomery.

Taylor’s putter is a 2013 TaylorMade Spider Ghost which also happens to make it one of the oldest putters in play on the PGA Tour outside of updated models that get put into play. From speaking with Taylor’s caddie this week at the WM Phoenix Open, he’s had the putter since college and does all the work on it himself, including the DIY paint job.

The putter shows its age thanks to a sizeable dent on the leading edge of the sole and the chipped black shaft coating, but with age comes experience, and based on Taylor’s putting stats, his trusted wand isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Taylor currently sits 8th in the FedEx Cup standings and occupies 53rd place in the Official World Golf Rankings as of the WM Phoenix Open. It just goes to show that when it’s not broke don’t fix it — maybe just give it a new paint job once and a while.
