Our take: The typical knock on gameimprovement irons is that they look too big or feel too harsh. When it comes to the new SIM2 Max irons, though, one tester mentioned how they “look visually smaller” and “feel really good.” And they said, that’s “tough to do with a game-improvement iron.” Looks and feel aside, testers also highlighted the fast feel off the face and the power they produced.

The details: After charting thousands of shots from real golfers and plotting where they hit the ball on the face, TaylorMade developed an all-new technology to help golfers where they need it most. TaylorMade calls it a “Cap Back Design” that’s evidenced by a lightweight polymer material that stretches across the back cavity. The design establishes stiffness behind the topline of the irons, and it allows for more flexing on the face to increase speed and distance. TaylorMade’s evolved Echo Dampening system then helps to mute sound and feel, as well. Available in standard and with an offset.
