Combo sets are a popular choice among many players — whether that means higher handicap golfers using sets with hybrids into the longer clubs or better players electing to go with a cavity back or players distance iron to add some forgiveness, the reign of the full iron set is slowing coming to an end.
Even long-time blade user Tiger Woods has transitioned to using a TaylorMade P770 3-iron to help properly gap from his 4-iron blade to his 5-wood rather than carry his traditional long iron.
Another player who has recently made the switch, and with glowing results so far this season, is Will Zalatoris, who had previously played a combo set of Titleist T100 and T200 irons. In 2024 Will moved to the more forgiving T150s, but with a new club that you’d might not expect to find often in the bag of a PGA Tour player — a T350 long iron.

When talking about his T150 irons in a recent post from Titleist, Will said: “When I first tried them (T510s), I would hit one barely in the heel or out on the toe and I was thinking — I must have lost seven or eight yards (on those strikes), but it was going the same distance as when I hit it solid… so to get that feedback and get the distance is like a unicorn to me.”
As for the T350, Zalatoris continued, “That iron is made to be a game-improvement iron, and when we were on the range testing it Max Homa and I spent about 20 minutes with it and just loved how awesome it was.” Will went on to add, “That was a cool day for me trying that iron and it’s a fun nugget that it’s in my bag. People ask me a lot about the new stuff and I’ll say, I actually play a game improvement iron — what are you playing, blades? Interesting.”
“I always love telling people, ‘yeah I’m actually playing a game-improvement iron.’”

More forgiveness and better feel: It’s why @WillZalatoris began the season with NEW T150 (4-PW) and T350 (3) irons in the bag. pic.twitter.com/qQ2l0VARUs
Will once again proves that when you can keep an open mind during the testing and club fitting process, you can find some results that you might not have expected, but that certainly pay off.
