FIRST LOOK: Titleist TS2 and TS3 hybrids are all about speed, distance

July 30, 2019

Titleist’s R&D team keeps the hits coming with a very worthy addition to the TS family, the new TS hybrids ($279 each).

According to Josh Talge, VP, Titleist golf club marketing, the “speed project” was a key for ushering in a new era of the company’s woods that produce serious big-time ball speed and distance, and the philosophy clearly carries over to the new hybrids. Both of the new TS2 and TS3 models are built with a 16-percent thinner clubface than the previous 818 hybrids for increased ball speed, launch, and forgiveness, as well as refined crown and face thicknesses for lower CG locations and improved MOI and stability.

However, there are some significant differences between the two models, most notably the type of players they’re aimed at. The TS2 is the slightly bigger and more forgiving design and is designed for players with a more sweeping swing type who value high launch and distance. In contrast, the TS3 is made for players who typically strike the ball with a descending blow and prefer a more controlled, iron-like ballflight. Not surprisingly the TS3 also features a more compact, iron-like design with a squared toe.

Both the TS2 and TS3 feature Titleist’s SureFit hosel with 16 independent loft and lie settings while the TS3 also features the adjustable Magnetic SureFit CG design. Stock shafts for both models include KURO Kage Dual Core Black 60, Tensei AV Series Blue 70, HZRDUS Smoke Black 80, and Even Flow T1100 White 90 shafts. The TS2 is available in 17º, 19º, 21º, 23º, 25º, and 27º lofts while the TS3 comes in 19º, 21º, 23º, and 25º.

The new Titleist TS hybrids will be available at retail on August 30th.
