On Friday, Wilson Golf announced the addition of a new golf ball to its line of products: the Triad, a three-piece, urethane-covered golf ball that is geared for the “modern athletic golfer,” according to the company’s press release.

So what is it that sets the Triad apart from Wilson’s other performance balls?

The company’s top-of-the-line offering, the Wilson Staff Model, is a 4-piece urethane golf ball, but the Triad is a three-piece. (For comparison’s sake, Wilson’s Duo Soft+ balls are two-piece.)

The Triad is designed to be a perfect middle-ground ball between the Tour-level Staff Model and the Duo Soft+.

“We are very excited to introduce this innovative golf ball for a growing community of competitive players who want to take their game to the next level,” Wilson Golf GM Tim Clarke said in a press release. “The competitive golfer striving to break 80 is who Wilson Labs had in mind while engineering the T3 Technology of Triad, allowing for pinpoint accuracy from anywhere on the course.”

The Triad incorporates three specific helpful technologies for players on the brink of breaking 80.

The first, a high-MOI design, redistributes weight from the ball’s core to the mantle and cover, meaning the ball spins less off the driver, resulting in a straighter ball flight.

Next, the ultra-thin cast urethane cover essentially helps the ball to stick on the clubface longer on mid- to low-irons, resulting in more controlled ball flight and more spin when you hit the green.

Finally, the Triad’s Tri-Balanced construction delivers perfect balance and pure roll, thanks to density balance across all three layers.

The Triad ball will be available on Wilson.com and at select retailers starting Feb. 15 for $39.99 per dozen.
