LAS VEGAS — It was 22 years ago in Las Vegas that the golf ball world was turned upside down when Titleist debuted the original Pro V1. Sticking with the every-other-year release cadence, the 2023 Pro V1 and Pro V1x commenced the Tour seeding and validation process to players this week at TPC Summerlin ahead of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Unlike club releases, balls don’t offer the same visual technology as metalwoods, but as you could probably guess the Pro V1 and Pro V1x naming isn’t going anywhere
From talking with the team at Titleist, full technical details on the new ball are being kept close to the chest but player feedback has been very strong when it comes to total performance.
In fact, the new ball was so in demand that Titleist allowed staffer Garrick Higgo to put it into play last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship and it resulted in a near-win with a standalone third-place finish.
When talking with Titleist Tour Rep JJ Van Wezenbeeck, he confirmed the dimple pattern was remaining the same for the new balls and the new construction is something they’re excited about when it comes to top-to-bottom performance in the bag.
Another player that plans to put it into play this week is Gary Woodland, who tested it with his coach Butch Harmon a couple of weeks ago and was raved about the performance.
