Fourteen RM-21 Wedge

Category: Wedges
Price: $185
56°/8°, 56°/12°, 58°/8° with True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: The trapezoidal grooves are 18 percent larger than its predecessor, the RM-12.

PLAYABILITY: The RM-21 thinks variety is the spice of golf—the nimble wedge handles well at low speeds and lets confident players command delicate shots; heel relief green-lights flop shots and slaps through the sand; sole design limits embarrassing flips and flubs; full swings fly really high and land with a splat; stays stable and square in the cabbage.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Repeatable club takes a lot of guesswork out of short shots and maintains an even temperament across the face; moderate spin is on par with expectations; works well for better players who control distances by modifying ball flight.
FEEL: Straight silk, among the softest wedges; a fluid club with a low-pitched thud through the ball; smooth acceleration off the face translates impact into legible terms—misses are muted, not totally dismissed.
LOOK: One of the better-looking options—nothing tricky or trendy, just a back-to-basics design drenched in class and craftsmanship; rounded, midsize muscleback looks clean and calm; a bit thicker on top than others, which some guys find comforting.

There are easier wedges to use—it can expose hidden weaknesses that others cover up; sticker shock could be a concern; its head appears larger and thicker than a few testers want at address.

BOTTOM LINE: An elegant club with a sweet touch and no glaring weaknesses, the RM-21 is the best wedge not on your radar. For a player with a confident short game, it has everything but name recognition—which might make you the cool kid on the putting green.
