One of TaylorMade’s fastest-selling irons ever now has a sequel. Yes, the technology-jammed P770 is back with an updated look to help you get the most from your iron game and ballstriking.
That is, of course, assuming you can get your hands on it. When the P770 was originally released back in August 2020, TaylorMade cleared out its entire inventory of irons in a matter of days, but even that wasn’t enough to slow down demand. After the P770’s initial launch, TaylorMade spent the rest of the season playing catch-up, pumping out their hot new irons to consumers as fast as they could make them.
As a new entry into TaylorMade’s line in 2020, the P770 was touted as the slimmed-down little brother to the popular P790. That promise appealed to better players looking for extra forgiveness and aspiring golfers who wanted all the tech they could find in a smaller-looking iron. For a club manufacturer with limited inventory due to the pandemic, it was the perfect storm.
The new P770 continues the line’s original appeal by delivering slim “blade-like” looks with a head packed with technology. But this version of the P770 is no little brother; with performance and precision delivered through the bag, it’s an iron that deserves to stand out on its own.

Looks and Technology
The 2023 P770 offers a player’s shape with a thinner and slightly more rounded topline. The new line also has less offset than its previous generation, an adjustment based on feedback from — you guessed it — Tiger Woods, who was spotted using P770 long irons multiple times during the 2022 season, including at the PGA and Open Championships.
Hidden inside the forged hollow body — and behind the fast 4140 face — is up to 45g of tungsten. Speedfoam Air, a favorite of the P700 line, is injected into the cavity of the new P770 to deliver a premium sound and feel without sacrificing the rebound characteristics of the hollow design. The new Speedfoam Air, originally introduced in the 2021 P790, is 69% less dense than the initial iteration and allows TaylorMade to reposition precious grams in the head for forgiveness.
For additional help, the P770 continues with TaylorMade’s “speed pocket” to keep spin down and ball speed up for shots missed low on the face.
But perhaps the most important addition to the new P770 is what TaylorMade calls “FLTD CG” (or flighted center of gravity), which lowers the center of gravity to the lowest it’s ever been in longer irons to help increase launch and, in turn, improve carry and stopping power.
For example, the CG in the P770 3-iron is 1.1mm lower than the previous generation. From there, the center of gravity is progressively raised into the shorter irons to add trajectory and spin control on shorter approach shots. This creates a best-of-both-worlds approach through the set to add height where you need it and control where you want it most.

The P770 irons are available for preorder starting today, December 6, at TaylorMadeGolf.com and at retail beginning January 20, 2023.
They are priced at $1299 for steel (KBS Tour) and $1499 for graphite shafts for an 8-piece set with the stock configuration being 3-PW, with an AW also available.
