Cleveland’s CBX Full-Face 2 wedges come equipped with True Temper’s Dynamic Gold 115 Spinner Tour Issue steel and Project X’s Catalyst Spinner graphite (80 grams). The wedges are priced at $169.99 and will be in retail shops starting Feb. 3.

It was only a week ago Cleveland released the RTX6 ZipCore wedges for golfers looking to maximize control and short-game precision — all in a traditionally shaped wedge.

If you’re a golfer who wants a bit more help and a confidence-inspiring look at address, look no further than Cleveland’s CBX Full-Face 2 which sports all the RTX6 technology built into a bigger and more forgiving package.

“Our new CBX Full-Face 2 wedge allows golfers the freedom to get creative around the greens and in tight yardages, with the perfect amount of spin control. With the biggest face ever on a CBX wedge, you’ll be able to strike the ball anywhere on the face with more forgiveness, while enjoying controlled stopping power in any conditions”
Dustin Brekke, Director of Engineering — Cleveland Golf

Technology

Although size is more of a design feature than technology, the Full-Face 2 offer up to 13 percent more contact area than the previous CBX Full-Face. More important is what the engineers at Cleveland do with that extra size by packing it with the same spin-enhancing technologies as the RTX6 including HydraZip face treatment, UltiZip groove pattern, and ZipCore to improve mass properties.

Let’s start with those mass properties. Thanks to the wider sole and deep cavity design, the Full-Face2 offer a significant improvement to overall MOI both up and down and across the face for better overall consistency. The deep cavity is filled with a GelBack pad to reduce vibration and enhance feel.

To put some actual numbers behind the design, the Full-Face 2 has a 7 percent higher MOI heel to toe and 13 percent higher MOI up and down the face, with the end result being a 43 percent tighter dispersion pattern compared to the previous RTX ZipCore wedges when struck on seven different locations around the face according to Cleveland’s testing.

The CBX Full-Face 2 also comes with UltiZip grooves which deliver the sharpest groove radii ever created by Cleveland to impart more spin.

What about wet conditions?

This is where Cleveland’s HydraZip comes in. HydraZip utilizes a dynamic face-blasting process and laser-etched lines to maximize friction in wet and dry conditions. The dynamic part of the face blasting process is that loft groupings are finished slightly differently (50-52 degrees, and 54-60 degrees) because the lower lofts require less surface roughness to achieve the same consistent spin performance in wet and dry conditions compared to higher lofts.

The lasered micro milling lines on the faces of the Full-Face 2 wedges are progressively angled based on wedge loft and the spin those wedges are hit to create the most friction possible at impact.

Grinds

The CBX Full-Face 2 grinds have been redesigned for greater forgiveness thanks to a tweak of the overall sole geometry. The 50- and 52-degree have more bounce to help better prevent digging on full swing shots while the 54- through 60-degree lofts have more bounce in the middle of the sole but greater relief along the trailing edge and heel for more versatility when opening the face.

Every loft in the line has a new leading edge chamfer to keep the leading edge out of the turf when hitting square-faced shots and shots hit with the hands in a more forward chipping position around the green.
