To say the previous Apex CF 16 iron model was a “hit” with players is an understatement, but the new model for 2019 is even better. The “CF” still stands for 360 Cup Face, which means plentiful ball speed and forgiveness across the clubface, but the new design also incorporates a VFT (variable thickness) face design in the short irons for more spin control and accuracy in the scoring zone.
Feel is also significantly improved through the use of both forged mild carbon steel construction and the addition of the same urethane microsphere material used in the Rogue and Big Bertha irons, which absorbs “bad” vibrations without negatively affecting ball speeds. The new Apex also features MIM’d Tungsten weighting to more precisely position the CG of each iron in the set.
Other features of the Apex 19 irons ($1,399 steel, $1,499 graphite) include a new platinum chrome finish, new progressive shaping, True Temper Elevate 95 stock shafts, and Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grips. Available in 4-AW with a wide variety of custom shafts.
A new Apex Pro 19 iron model ($1,399) is also available for those who want Tour performance and control with enhanced ball speed and distance. More discerning players will appreciate the forged mild carbon steel construction, which is combined with urethane microspheres that absorb vibrations for exceptionally soft feel and a preferred sound at impact. Distance in the long and mid-irons is enhanced by Callaway’s 360 face cup design while the short irons are built with a VFT face for enhanced control and accuracy.
Accompanying the Apex irons are the Apex 19 hybrids ($269.99 each), which are aimed at better players who desire the control, workability and spin rates of a long iron with the playability of a hybrid. The more traditional shaping hides Callaway’s innovative Jailbreak Technology that creates a stiffer body, more face flex at impact, and faster ball speeds.
A forged Carpenter steel face cup also enhances distance across the clubface with added flexibility away from the sweet spot. Other features include a dark PVD finish, True Temper Catalyst Shafts, and Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grips.
The Apex 19 irons and hybrids will be available at retail on January 25th.
