While every tour pro has the benefit of using perfectly customized gear, Bryson DeChambeau’s set-up takes things to a whole new level.

Dubbed golf’s “mad scientist,” DeChambeau has a long history of quirky gear configurations, which currently includes a driver designed for the long-drive circuit and single-length, 3D-printed irons.

Another DeChambeau method making headlines this weekend is his golf-ball-selection strategy. Prior to his round, he floats his balls in Epsom salts to identify the ones with perfectly-centered cores.

As the three-stroke leader of the U.S. Open at the 54-hole mark, it’s clear that there’s something to DeChambeau’s unorthodox approach.
