Adams Blue Hybrid Review: ClubTest 2016

April 19, 2016

CATEGORY: Game Improvement Hybrids
PRICE: $180
WE TESTED: 5h (24°), 6h (27°) with Aldila SlimTech 55 graphite shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: A slot in the sole helps generate added flex low on the face.

PLAYABILITY: High marks — an extremely easyto- hit iron replacement; produces a high ball flight that lands softly on greens; typically plays it straight or with a slight draw; strong performer from tight lies as well as the rough.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: The Adams Blue is the most forgiving Game Improvement hybrid in the test; enormous sweet spot — even balls struck on the heel or toe stay online and lose little yardage; top-shelf accuracy — shots go right at the pin with plenty of stopping power.
DISTANCE: Repeatable lengths with ideal gaps that fit right into the Blue iron set; comparable to the irons they replace, but much easier to hit with consistency.
FEEL: On the lighter side, but well balanced; remains stable for smooth, easy swingers; clean, energetic feel off the clubface; just enough feedback to let testers know how they struck the ball.
LOOK: A sporty head with a blue finish; the offset, combined with the painted grooves, makes it easy to see the face at address — there’s no doubt you’ll get the ball airborne; clubhead sets up square with an “A” on top for alignment.

Testers want to see more length; players with higher swing speeds struggle to feel comfortable, possibly due to the lighter weight; the blue color and racing stripe on the crown aren’t for everyone.

BOTTOM LINE: Players with smooth, easy swings will bring out the best in these iron replacements. The Adams Blue delivers stellar forgiveness, a high, repeatable ball flight and predictable distances.
