Adam Scott is making his 22nd Open Championship start this week, and he’s still searching for his first Claret Jug. Although he’s come agonizingly close in the past (see 2012), the 41-year-old has never quite gotten it done across the pond.

This week at the Old Course, he’ll try to become the fifth Aussie to become Champion Golfer of the Year — and he’s optimized his bag setup with that goal in mind.

“When you go to the links, there’s always some stuff to consider with the golf bag,” Scott said.

Here’s a look at the setup Scott is relying on this week in St. Andrews.

Driver: TaylorMade Stealth with Graphite Design Tour AD DI-7x

3-Wood: TaylorMade Stealth + (adjustable), with Graphite Design Tour AD DI-9x shaft

Utility irons: Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi 2 & 3 irons with KBS Tour 130X shafts

The interesting thing about Adams newest irons, which are the first non-Titleist irons he has played in over two decades is the sole profile was something Adam had in mind specifically for his playing style and the Open Championship.

Unlike the standard Miura MB101 blade irons which have a more rounded sole, Adam’s irons have more offset and a flatter sole profile that puts the leading edge closer to the ground to keep contact more vertically aligned with the sweet spot. This small adjustment makes a big difference since shots hit lower on the face – which can happen when a club has too much bounce, makes controlling trajectory more difficult.

For the full story of how these irons came together you can check out this article here where Kevin O’Connell, Miura Golf’s vice president of sales, and Golf.com’s Jonathan Wall discuss in detail the process of building these irons exactly to Adam’s needs: How Adam Scott’s Jack Nicklaus-esque Miura irons came to life
